Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy
The Journal of Malay Constitutional Studies (JMCS) is committed to preserving its published scholarly content and maintaining the long-term accessibility and integrity of the journal's academic record.
Digital preservation is an important part of the journal's responsibility as a scholarly publication. JMCS therefore seeks to maintain reliable copies of its published content, associated metadata, and other essential journal records.
1. Purpose of Digital Preservation
The purpose of the JMCS archiving and digital preservation policy is to support the continued availability, integrity, and accessibility of published scholarly content over time.
Preservation measures are intended to reduce the risk of permanent loss caused by technical failure, accidental deletion, system migration, website disruption, or other circumstances affecting the journal's publishing infrastructure.
2. Official Digital Archive
The official JMCS publishing platform serves as the primary online record of the journal's published issues and articles.
Published content is organized and maintained through the journal's online publishing system together with relevant bibliographic and publication metadata.
3. Content Subject to Preservation
JMCS seeks to preserve essential components of its scholarly publication record, including, where applicable:
- published articles;
- journal volumes and issues;
- article titles and abstracts;
- author and affiliation information;
- bibliographic metadata;
- publication dates and citation information;
- article files and associated publication materials; and
- corrections, retractions, or other notices forming part of the scholarly record.
4. Preservation of Metadata
JMCS recognizes that bibliographic metadata is an important component of digital preservation and scholarly discoverability.
The journal therefore seeks to maintain accurate metadata associated with its publications so that articles and issues can continue to be identified, organized, cited, and discovered.
5. Backup and Data Protection
JMCS seeks to maintain appropriate backup and data-protection practices for its publishing infrastructure and journal records.
Backup arrangements are intended to support restoration of journal content and essential publication data in the event of accidental loss, technical failure, or other disruption.
6. Platform Maintenance and Migration
Where the journal's publishing platform, hosting environment, software, or technical infrastructure is upgraded or migrated, reasonable measures should be taken to preserve published content, metadata, and the continuity of the scholarly record.
Technical changes should, where reasonably possible, avoid unnecessary loss of publication files, bibliographic information, article identification, and accessibility.
7. Integrity of the Scholarly Record
JMCS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.
Published articles should not ordinarily be removed merely because they are old, subsequently debated, or no longer reflect current scholarly views.
Where correction, retraction, or another editorial action becomes necessary, JMCS will seek to maintain an appropriate record of that action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
8. Author and Institutional Repositories
Consistent with the journal's open-access and licensing policies, authors may preserve and share their published articles through institutional repositories, academic repositories, personal scholarly websites, and other lawful archival or dissemination channels.
Where possible, archived copies should include complete citation information and identify the Journal of Malay Constitutional Studies (JMCS) as the venue of publication.
9. Open Access and Preservation
JMCS considers open access and digital preservation to be complementary principles.
Open access facilitates the dissemination and lawful sharing of scholarly content, while preservation measures seek to ensure that the scholarly record remains accessible over time.
10. External Preservation Services
JMCS may participate in appropriate institutional, national, international, or distributed digital preservation services as the journal's publishing infrastructure develops.
Where such services are formally implemented, information concerning the journal's participation may be added to this policy and other relevant journal information pages.
11. Continuity of Access
In the event of significant changes to the journal's publishing arrangements, JMCS will seek, where reasonably possible, to preserve continued access to previously published scholarly content.
Preservation and migration decisions should prioritize the integrity, accessibility, and citation continuity of the journal's scholarly record.
12. Responsibility for Preservation
The editorial team and publisher share responsibility for supporting reasonable measures to preserve the journal's published scholarly content and associated publication records.
Raja Ali Haji Research Network (RAHRN), as the publisher of JMCS, supports the maintenance and long-term development of the journal's digital publishing and preservation infrastructure.
13. Relationship with Other JMCS Policies
This Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy should be read together with the Open Access Policy, Copyright and Licensing Policy, and Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
JMCS will periodically review its preservation practices as the journal's technical infrastructure and scholarly publishing activities develop.
